Tell to Win

Tell to Win book

The network marketing aphorism is,

Facts Tell – Stories Sell.

Cliché? Yes. Boring? Yes. True? Absolutely.

Can you tell a story? Of course you can. Are you a master story teller? Perhaps not, but you can become more persuasive. How?

Tell to Win is the title of a new book that explains how to emotionalize your story to increase your odds of success in your chosen endeavour. Peter Guber and a few of his friends illustrate how to tell a purposeful story.

Atlas Shrugged the Movie

Atlas Shrugged book cover

Ayn Rand was the pen-name for, Russian born, Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum (19050120—19820306), a famous author. Her devotees praise her as a great philosopher.

I first heard about Rand’s best-known book, Atlas Shrugged, when I was ten years of age. My father attempted to read Atlas Shrugged, but abandoned it. I picked it up one day, but quickly discovered it wasn’t my usual comic book material.

Rand described her novel’s thesis as “the role of the mind in man’s existence and, as a corollary, the demonstration of a new moral philosophy: the morality of rational self-interest.”

I didn’t read Atlas Shrugged until I was in my late forties. Bluntly, I wasn’t impressed and found it more than a little depressing. From my vantage, there was an absence of goodness in Rand’s writings. Objectivism and individualism can be good things, but self interest is often taken too far. Doing good for yourself alone can be bad for others and even bad for the rest of the world. There’s a desirable middle ground to be found and explored that lies between altruism and individualism. I find myself grinning when some Conservatives revere and embrace Rand’s financial philosophies, but ignore her other ideas, ideas like ‘Atheism.’

Atlas Shrugged the Movie: Here’s the trailer.

I won’t be surprised if a few network marketing leaders attempt to use the movie to promote self-interest as a viable philosophy. Making a difference requires more than self-interest, let’s not forget that the ultimate goal is to help other people.

Remember When Everything Was Possible?

remember when everything was possible

Many years ago, I used a very expensive colour/color laser printer to produce labels that I attached to brochure-sized envelopes. The labels featured either the boy or the girl I’ve shown above. The captions were:

  • “Remember When Everything Was Possible” (above the picture)
  • “It Still Is!” (below the picture)

I was always impressed by the response. The postmistress asked, “What’s in here?” when I mailed my envelopes. When I spoke to recipients of my brochures, more often than not, they mentioned my labels. My mailman also asked, “What’s in here?” when he returned an undeliverable brochure.

Remember When Everything Was Possible?
It Still Is!

It’s still, and always will be, a very powerful message.

Car Commercials – Ads That Work

KIA Optima commercial

What does it take to get the attention of consumers when you’re introducing a new car in 2011. Here are two commercials, one from KIA and one from VW, both run for a minute. Both are creative, but…

which one is more memorable?

The ‘simple’ VW ad apparently gives more people a warm fuzzy feeling, than the much more complex KIA spot.

KIA less than 50,000 views (20110207 at about 1500 hrs)
VW more than 16,000,000 views (20110207 at about 1500 hrs)

Although this comment may be a stretch, I suspect there’s a message here for network marketers who feel obliged to make other worldly claims. Ads that work can be simple if they have an honest emotional appeal. I enjoyed both ads, but I Tweeted the VW commercial.

As a Man Thinketh

As a Man Thinketh cover

Have you read ‘As a Man Thinketh’?

“I read this once a year for over 15 years when I was in my 20s and 30s.” —Paul J. Meyer

Paul J Meyer

Mr. Myer (1928 – 2009) held the firm belief that all people, regardless of their gender, personality, social standing, or level of education, could develop the necessary characteristics to achieve and live a lifetime of success. He became a millionaire by the age of 27. His companies are active in more than 60 countries throughout the world.

My network marketing reading started with ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ which quickly led me to discover James Allen’s classic ‘As a Man Thinketh.’ It’s a quick read, definitely worthy of your time. I’m betting you’ll end up reading it more than once.

Although ‘As a Man Thinketh’ is available in both book and audiobook formats, you can grab a legitimate free copy from Project Gutenberg.

Network Marketing Profession

Q: What do you know about the network marketing profession?

If the little voice in your head just whispered, “It’s a scam, one of those pyramid things.” this article is for you.

I’m not a network marketing guru, I’m a retired medical doctor. I overcame my initial bias, tested the network marketing waters for years and only recently decided to become a network marketing professional. Notice that I didn’t write a professional who became a network marketer. Yes, I’m convinced there really is a network marketing profession.

Although a retired Doc’s opinion might not be very convincing, what if you heard about the network marketing profession from a Harvard Ph.D. in Business and Professor at UIC, Dr. Charles King.

“The Rise of Network Marketing As the Next Major Profession.”

After a long and distinguished career, I suspect that it was a great surprise to Dr. King that he is probably best known for his role in the video titled ‘Brilliant Compensation.’ Here’s a short clip from that video.

Humans Are Capable of Greatness

Still from The Pale Blue Doy

Network marketing professionals love personal development. Here’s a short video, ‘Earth – The Pale Blue Dot,’ with a big message about human potential. I liked the phrase, “Humans are capable of greatness.”

Never Underestimate an Old Broad

92 yr 'old broad' Salsa dancing

I received this video in an email from a friend. The title was ‘Never Underestimate An Old Broad.’ I enjoyed it and thought you might too. I’m told that she is ninety-two years young and that she’s dancing with her grandson.

Network marketing professionals might want to consider adding a few more dynamic ‘old-folks’ to their networks.
