*My ‘joie de vivre’ story: When I was a lifeguard at Lac Philippe, I was invited to stay with my girlfriend, now my wife, at her cottage on Lac Gauvreau. One Sunday night, I chuckled when I overheard a couple of retired English military officers cursing at the ‘Frenchmen’ on the other side of the lake. The French were singing loudly around their bonfire. All I knew was that it looked like a lot more fun on the French side of the lake.
